Statamic
Statamic vs Craft CMS: pricing, stack and fit
They are close on price and aimed at similar sites. The real questions are whether your team works in Laravel, whether you want content in files or a database, and which features you need in the base edition.

Choose Statamic if
- You have Laravel developers, or a Laravel application the site should live inside.
- You want content in Git with your code, and no database to run for a simple site.
- You want unlimited editors at the lower paid price.
- You want to write custom features as ordinary Laravel code.
Choose Craft if
- You have developers who know Twig or Craft already, and no Laravel in the picture.
- You want a database as standard, which suits large content volumes and existing database tooling.
- You need several sites or languages on a small budget, since multi-site is included in every edition.
- You want two-factor sign-in without an enterprise contract.
- You want the vendor’s own hosting, with the licence included.
What the table doesn’t decide
The licence difference is tiny compared with the build. Team skills make the bigger difference, because whichever you choose, someone has to maintain it for years. If your current developer or agency works in one of these, that is a strong reason to stay with it. Ask who else could take the site over, and how readily you could hire them.
The support calendars matter too. Statamic plans a major release roughly yearly, with security fixes for 18 months per release. Check Craft’s current policy for the version you would use before comparing the two. On the budget side, our Statamic cost guide has a calculator you can use with your own quotes, and our Statamic development page describes what we do.
Questions
Which is cheaper, Statamic or Craft?
It depends on your team size. Craft Team is $279 for up to 5 users, and Statamic Pro is $349 with unlimited users. Craft Pro is $399, also with unlimited users. Updates are $99 a year after the first year on all three, so the gap is small next to the build.
Does Craft need a database?
Yes. Craft stores content in a relational database, on MySQL, MariaDB or PostgreSQL. Statamic stores content in files by default, with an official driver for a database.
Do you build on Craft?
It isn't one of our service lines, so take this comparison knowing that we offer Statamic and not Craft. We've kept to facts you can check, and linked the sources.
