Laravel 14: release window and how to plan for it

Laravel hasn’t announced a release date for Laravel 14. Its yearly cadence points to around the first quarter of 2027, but that’s a pattern, not a date. For now, the useful thing to do is get onto a supported version and a PHP that’s ready for it.

Why around Q1

The last three majors arrived on March 12, 2024, February 24, 2025 and March 17, 2026. That’s the pattern the release notes describe, though the exact date has moved by weeks each year, so don’t plan a project around a particular month. See our Laravel versions page for the full history.

What this means if you’re on 13

You have no reason to rush. Laravel 13 keeps bug fixes until Q3 2027 and security fixes until March 17, 2028. Waiting a few months after 14 ships is reasonable, because packages take time to declare support. Laravel’s recent majors have been modest changes, but we’d read the upgrade guide when it appears, and not before.

The one thing worth doing now is moving to PHP 8.4, if you’re on 8.3. Laravel 13 accepts it, so it’s a separate release with no framework change, and it means the likely PHP floor is already behind you when 14 arrives.

What this means if you’re on 12

The timing is awkward. Laravel 12 security fixes end on February 24, 2027, which is about when 14 might appear. If you wait to see what 14 brings, you could end up two majors behind and out of support on the day it ships, with packages still catching up. Go to 13 now. Our 12 to 13 guide covers the work, and Laravel’s release notes describe it as a relatively minor upgrade.

What this means if you’re further behind

Laravel 14 changes nothing for you. Your framework is already out of security support, so 13 is the target today. By the time you’ve finished, 14 may be out, and that’s fine: one more step from a current, tested application is far easier than the one you’re taking now. See our Laravel 11 and Laravel 10 guides, or upgrading Laravel 5–9.

Getting ready without guessing

  • PHP. Plan on 8.4 at least. PHP 8.3’s security support ends on 31 December 2027, and our PHP 8.2 guide compares the options.
  • Package floors. Some current lines already need PHP 8.4, including spatie/laravel-activitylog 5.1.3, spatie/laravel-query-builder 7.3.7, spatie/laravel-translatable 6.15.0, pestphp/pest-plugin-laravel v5.0.1. Our package compatibility matrix tracks these floors.
  • Tests. A good test suite is what makes a yearly upgrade routine. If you have gaps around billing or permissions, fill them now.
  • A yearly habit. Upgrading one version a year costs little compared with catching up on several. Our maintenance plan includes framework, package and PHP updates, and our upgrade service handles the larger jumps.

Questions

When is Laravel 14 coming out?

Laravel hasn’t published a date. Its release notes say major versions come every year, around the first quarter, which points to about Q1 2027. Treat that as a pattern, not a promise. This page was last checked on 30 October 2026.

What PHP version will Laravel 14 need?

That isn’t final until release. The framework’s master branch currently requires PHP 8.4 and Symfony 8.1 components, so we’d plan on PHP 8.4 as the likely minimum.

Should I wait for Laravel 14 instead of upgrading to 13?

No, if you’re on Laravel 12 or older. Laravel 12 security fixes end on February 24, 2027, and the 14 date isn’t known. Laravel 13 has security fixes until March 17, 2028, so it covers you either way.

How long will Laravel 14 be supported?

Under Laravel’s current policy, each major gets 18 months of bug fixes and two years of security fixes from its release. Exact dates can’t be worked out until there’s a release date.
